Our story

Built around service and trust

VA presenter speaking to attendees during a benefits and support information session

Our local is rooted in the belief that advocacy should be accessible, respectful, and grounded in real community needs. We serve people who care deeply about veterans and public service, and we work to make sure their concerns are heard.

Scenes like this reflect the service-centered outreach, education, and advocacy that shape our work.

The challenges facing VA employees and veterans can be complex, especially during times of policy and workplace change. That is why we aim to be a steady source of support, helping people navigate issues, find resources, and participate in a stronger network of mutual care.

We believe informed employees, supported veterans, and engaged families create a stronger community for everyone.

About AFGE Local 1594 St Petersburg

A Message From President Galen Wheless

VA employees continue to serve Veterans through significant workplace and policy changes. Many employees are carrying increased workloads, uncertainty, and concern about how the changes affect their careers, families, and ability to serve Veterans.

AFGE Local 1594 remains committed to supporting eligible VA employees, promoting fair treatment, and bringing employee concerns to VA leadership in a responsible and organized manner.

My faith guides my commitment to service. I believe leadership begins with listening, respecting the dignity of every employee, and standing with those who need support.

AFGE Local 1594 welcomes employees from every background, experience, and viewpoint. We are a nonpartisan union. Our commitment is to the VA workforce, the mission we serve, and the Veterans who depend on us every day.

We need employees to participate, share concerns, attend meetings, and become dues-paying members of the union. A union gains strength when employees unite around a shared purpose.
